[ music | Death Letter (cover) - Johnny Farmer ]

A momentous event is in motion.

My family is cleaning thirty-five years worth of crap - seventy years' worth if you count my grandparents' stuff - out from the basement.

It's amazing what impending visits from your relatives will make you do. Only problem is we all have intense allergies so we all have to run outside for air when my mom starts sweeping down there. There are layers - layers - of dust. I love finding old things when we clean - apparently we have a radio/turntable from 1942 sitting down there!

And somewhere close is a little box with the combination to the safe in the attic that's been locked since before my parents moved here thirty+ years ago.

:D excitedddddd

Oh, and Dualite music later.

long long long LONG post [09 Jul 2009|11:40pm]
[ mood | busy ]
[ music | Ave Maria - Mella Cirrito ]

My house is full of cookies!

As per tradition, my mom is making a lot of Greek and Italian wedding pastries, so she was in the kitchen all day yesterday at work on kourabiethes (crumbly sugared almond cookies), biscotti (long almond cookies), and koufeta (a Greek wedding tradition - coated almonds which you wrap in netting and put in a basket). She'll probably make the Greek version of biscotti too, which is paximathia. Pretty much the same thing. Una faccia, una razza, as they say.

My mom is adorable when she cooks.

I am very excited for next week. It's so rare that I get to see any of my relatives, as we're all dispersed rather widely across the States - getting to see everyone on both sides is gonna be crazy.
I just hope there's more relative fun and less wedding stress gahhhhh

But stress is already happening so perhaps we'll get it out of the way before the insane timeline that is next week:

Wednesday: Relatives start arriving and my mom recruits them for manual labor and baking more kourabiethes and paximadia
Thursday: More manual labor and fun, then everyone's invited to my parents' house to help wrap the koufeta that night
Friday: Rehearsal for us bridal party folk, then the rehearsal dinner (which I'm providing the music for because I'm cool), then the girls spend the night at JohnnyandTai's and the guys chill at my parents' house (girls and guys of the wedding party that is)
Saturday: Us girls wake up at most likely 4 in the morning to get all that hair and makeup shit out of the way (God help us all) before the photographer arrives at 7:30, then wedding at noon, then the wedding reception
Sunday: Everyone from out of town (read: virtually all of my relatives) stays at my parents' place for Cincinnati night to eat LaRosa's pizza and Graeter's ice cream and Skyline chili

Somewhere in there, I think I get a new car for super super cheap.

So, hey! Something irrelevant.

I guess I can start posting things from my other project for reference, the webcomic thing I've mentioned once or twice.

Meet some of the kids from Dualité, and nevermind the pretentious French title!

The tentative summary runs a little cheesy now that I look back over, so I'll try and give the gist rather than details (hah if I can manage that). It's set in 1905 in Cincinnati, Ohio, because the Nati is actually a historically rich city, having been the first American boomtown - I'm surprised it hasn't been used for more historical films/books/comics. And, well, it could use a little more attention.

Keep in mind, I've been working on this story with a retelling of Beauty and the Beast in mind, so......yyyyeah.

FYI: I would only read this is you're into stories and fantasy webcomics and French things and dramatic cartoons and characters and what not. :P

Dualité
Oh no, it's a teaser pic with dramatic eyes.

.....dramatically pixelated apparently.

The plot! )

The gang! (half of it anyway) )

NOW I SHOULD SLEEP like I shoulda been doing five hours ago.

I just love it when my neighbors decide to start chopping wood at eight in the morning when I'd already woken up once at five.

Meh.

On the bright side, had a nice night with my sister-in-law-to-be and one of the other bridesmaids - good thing we picked up all our dresses and figured out how we want our hair to look. We have to be good about getting things done early, because considering how long it took, we'll have to wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning on the day of the wedding (which starts at noon!).
All the bridesmaids and the bride, duh, are spending the night at Johnny and Tai's place, while Johnny himself and all his groomsmen are gonna hang out at my parents' place the night before the wedding. Apparently the photographer is getting there at 7:30 in the morning, so we'll have to get most of our shit done by then.

I really hope he's not gonna be taking pictures of us getting ready from the start, I don't wanna be cranky from little sleep and accidentally-on-purpose snap at the guy/girl.

At least it'll be fun. On the plus side, I apparently have great skin and unfairly awesome lips XD

[ music | too early for music right now ]

Eight in the morning is an unholy time to wake up, especially when I didn't have my alarm set to go off till an hour and a half from now. Also did not get much sleep at all thanks to the roomie's boyfriend plugging in his cell phone right outside my door. Which would not have been a problem if I hadn't been going off all friggin' night.

Time to yell at a three-hundred pound guy.

I can already tell this week is gonna suck ass. I've got my best friend mad at me and had to miss out on the best vacation ever. Which is the reason for the former sucky thing. And is stupid.

On the plus side I can console myself with the fact that I'm getting a new car. Who cares if it's the exact same kind as my current one? Least it won't be shitty.

[ mood | cranky ]

Over four weeks without my laptop is getting really annoying. I hate having to borrow other peoples' computers to check my mail.

I miss listening to my music. Most of it is on my laptop, and the half that is on CDs, I can't listen to because the big cd player/radio is apparently broken and when I try my DVD player, it makes a high-pitched squealing sound. I can only charge my iPod (the rotation of which is getting monotonous) when I borrow a charger from one of my roommates, and I really miss writing (I'm spoiled by MS Word and thesaurus.com) and coloring in Photoshop.

Oh my God Photoshop. I have so much shit drawn that I want to color.

SO MUCH SHIT

But I'm so poor I still can't afford to buy a new power adaptor, and neither can my dad because he has to shell out 5000 bucks to cut down the apparently dangerous trees in the backyard at my parents' place, The eighty dollars I got from my wonderful older brothers was spent ENTIRELY on gas for my car and groceries. I'm thinking I may not be getting a birthday present from my parents for a long time because money is so tight. I keep trying to get in touch with a union guy who's supposed to be helping me get a job, and even after hounding his secretary, who said he'd call me back within the next couple days (it's been several), I still have to play phone tag. None of my other recent applications (hounding them too) have yielded anything yet.

Being an adult sucks ass.

yeah yeah i know, WHINE MOAN BITCH COMPLAIN, i know life could be so much worse and I actually have it extremely good, but damnit I need to vent SOMEWHERE.

also WILL SOMEONE GET THESE NASTY-ASS DRAIN BUGS OUT OF MY APARTMENT
I HAVE FOUND A COUPLE IN MY ROOM

So apparently the fleas are not fleas, they are some kind of harmless but annoying drain fly. My roommate's mom is a bamf and took samples of them to the OSU entomology department to get them IDed within the week and learn how to get rid of them. I love her, srsly, awesome mom.
So at least they're not fleas hellbent on eating me alive.

Also I got a new driver's license and am apparently a badass at getting awesome driver's license pictures.

...also today is my 21st birthdayyyy :D

And before anyone asks, no I am not going out to get smashed to hell, nor am I getting smashed at home, I am going out for a great dinner with my best friend, who is buying me a happy little Strawberry Daquiri and then we're going home, drinking Arbor Mist with my parents and playing Super Nintendo, yes i am lame and this birthday is wasted on me but damnit, I just want something that actually tastes good.

I'm sure I'll have a very different birthday once I get back up to Columbus, since my roommates and buddies up there want to take me out for a shot and other stuff, but I have no intention of ever experiencing a hangover. Thanks though :)

Fleas.

FLEAS.
THERE ARE FLEAS IN MY APARTMENT.

We saw them in me and Alissa's bathtub and in our kitchen sink, like they came out of the drains, little fuckers. We think it's from the previous tenant's cat.

We're gonna call our landlord and have someone inspect it and then get to spraying the baseboards and now I have to move shit out of my room again and even when I see just one bug I feel like it's on me for the rest of the day and these are LOTS of bugs that DO get on you even though I haven't been bitten (yet)

WHY CAN'T MOVING EVER GO SMOOTHLY
GET THESE LITTLE BASTARDS OUT OF MY HOUSE

Okay two weeks without my computer with which to scan and color all this shit I've been drawing is KILLING me.

KILLING ME.
I MEAN THERE IS SO MUCH DRAWING.
SO MUCH.

"I feel like Superman without his powers. I have the cape, and yet I cannot fly!"

Also my mom and I met the woman who's doing all the alterations for my sister-in-law-to-be's (such a long title) bridal party. Her name is Zeny and she is hilarious, just completely insane. She has this loud booming random laugh, which is funny to hear coming out of a tiny Filipino woman, and she's brutally honest and apparently she now loves my family because we're fun :D

Although I wish I didn't have to get alterations done. My dress fits perfectly everywhere......except in the bust.

Go figure.
This is why I don't understand women who want bigger boobs. They just cause problems!

(also the man who came in after we were there was old and creepy and kept staring at my mom and me and then asked my mom for a hug. ew.
then Zeny, being awesome, told him, "You don't get a hug, you're a stranger. I mean, you're strange!")

I can't believe I managed to sit through the entire length of The Notebook. The only thing that movie's good for is the clothes, the cars, and James Marsden.

Also what is it that has me re-obsessing over Christian Bale lately. While moving in, Alissa and I watched The Dark Knight and found new sexy features on the guy every five minutes.

Mmm.

[ music | NONE because I don't have my own iTunes goddamnit ]

Once again on Alissa's laptop. I really, really miss my computer.

STILL waiting to have enough money to buy a new power adaptor, damn thing costs 100 dollars so I'm hoping when we get our security deposit back from the old apartment, it'll be more than enough for me to cover that expense.

It's kind of sad how bored I am without my computer. Obviously I go out and do normal people things, and I'll come home and draw and chill and watch a movie or what not. But I want to be able to check Facebook (saddd) and write stories and RP and color and ink in Photoshop, and oh my god my iTunes I miss my iTunes. I ALWAYS have them going. Not having my own computer to use for the past two weeks sucks ass.

But on another note, we've FINALLY made The Big Move into the new apartment, for the most part. All our big furniture - our meaning mine and Mara's, Alissa moves in in a couple weeks - is here. I got more of my personal crap (CRAP I HAVE SO MUCH CRAP) in than Mara did, so my bed is made and my electronic stuff is set up and most of my wall decorating is done.

I LOVE being able to decorate a new room. Once my computer is up and running again I'll post pictures of the new place, or at least my part of it. I'm just glad I'm out of the old apartment and getting to live with my two best friends up here in the Bus.

On an unrelated note, we went to a bar Saturday night and stayed for three hours watching Mara's (roomie #1) boyfriend Will perform with his band (they were excellent for having only two people and Will is an extremely talented drummer).

The X's on my hands are STILL THERE after three days. What the hell?

I turn 21 on June 10th, no I'm not getting smashed, but I am very excited to get my wussy little Strawberry Daquiri. :)

I miss my computer. :(

i haz a sad (and a nicely organized DVD rack!).

EDIT:
Also no one cares, but I want to ask why my roommate has such nasty guy friends. First there was Washes-His-Underwear-In-Our-Pasta-Pot, now there's Drunken-Marine-Pees-On-Our-Futon-And-Attempts-Coverup-With-Febreze.

Just. Ew.
